As we look ahead to spring, check out these new types of plants.

Spring is on the way, and with that, the catalogs of plant offerings. As I have been updating myself on what will be available, I have come across a few new ones that I am excited about!
Alpenglow Hybrid Maple: Another offering from the Jack Frost collection where the trees are evaluated and selected to tolerate the dramatic weather shifts of the upper Midwest. Hardy to -30F. 20’H x 15’W/Zone 4/Sun to Part Shade.

Pinkerton Japanese Iris: Its six ruffled falls are etched with darker veins and crests are rimmed with a deeper pink. ‘Pinkerton’ blooms are later and more exotic-looking and the fact that they’re pink, really stands out! 3’H x 2’W/Zone 4/Sun to Part Sun.

Glow Sticks Tall Fescue: Dazzling from mid-spring with incredible, showy, bright yellow flower spikelets that create an eye-catching contrast with the dark green foliage. 12-18” Tall and Wide, Flowers to 30”/Zone 3/Full Sun.

Itoh Garden Candy Blueberry Lemonade Peony: A remarkable Itoh with subtly ruffled, almost frilly, golden petals that are variously streaked and striped in contrasting purple. Each flower is beautiful, with no two that are alike, some showing an abundance of stripes and others very few. 3’TW/Zone 4/ Full Sun.

Gumball Goody Shrub Rose: Turns garden beds into a candy-colored display, mixing soft pink, deep pink, and sunny yellow blooms on a naturally rounded, compact shrub. The steady flush of flowers from spring into frost keeps color in play for the whole season. 2-3’TW/Zone 3/Full Sun.

I’m looking forward to trying some of these beauties out for myself. Perhaps you will too!
